지난 7월 11일, 레딩한글학교는 1년 동안 열심히 배우고 성장한 시간을 마무리하며 마지막 수업으로 책 낭독회를 열었습니다. 올해는 매년 진행해 오던 형식에서 벗어나 각 반이 자신들만의 개성을 담은 다양한 방식으로 책을 소개하고 발표를 준비하여 더욱뜻깊은 시간이 되었습니다.

세컨더리 학생들이 있는 세종반은 어린 누리반 친구들부터 학부모님들까지 모두 함께 즐길 수 있도록 동화책 <초록 양은 어디갔을까? > 를 재미있는 오디오북 형식으로 각색하여 낭독회의 문을 활기차게 열었습니다.

레딩한글학교의 가장 큰 반인 아름반은 <내 유년시절의 울타리는 탱자나무였다>를 함께 읽고, 이야기 속 가시를 통해 '나의 가시는 무엇인지'를 깊이 생각해 보는 시간을 가지고 아이들이 각자의 생각을 글로 정리해 발표하며 진지한 성찰을 나누었습니다.

<구름빵>을 읽은 누리반 친구들은 가장 어린 학생들이라 무대에 오르는 것만으로도 긴장됐을 텐데, 씩씩하게 무대를 즐기며 귀엽고 사랑스러운 발표를 선보여 큰 박수를 받았습니다.

또 정음반 학생들은 많은 한국 학부모들에게도 익숙한 <행복한 왕자>를 읽고 직접 동상을 만들어 중간중간 퍼포먼스를 더한 발표를 선보이며 작품의 감동을 생생하게 전달했습니다.

한얼반은 <루이 브라유>, <헬렌 켈러>, <박연>, <베토벤> 등 위인전을 읽고, 인물들의 삶을 통해 느낀 점을 독후감 형식으로 발표하며 자신의 느낀 점을 함께 나누었습니다.

마지막으로 훈민반은 <겨자씨의 꿈>을 읽으며 수업 시간에 직접 씨앗을 키우고 함께했던 다양한 활동들을 발표에 담아냈습니다. 책을 읽는 데서 그치지 않고 체험과 배움을 연결한 발표로 책 낭독회의 아름다운 마무리를 장식했습니다.

올해는 2년 만에 반 편성이 바뀌며 학생들이 새로운 학년으로 진급하는 해였습니다. 그래서 지난 1년 동안 아이들이 보여 준 성장과 발전이 더욱 돋보였던 한 해였습니다. 책을 읽고 생각을 나누며 자신만의 방식으로 표현하는 아이들의 모습은 모두에게 큰감동과 기쁨을 선사했습니다.

마지막 수업을 더욱 즐겁게 마무리할 수 있도록 아이들에게 맞춤형 아이스크림을 준비해 주신 가족들, 스낵 꾸러미와 물풍선 꽃다발로 즐거운 하교 시간을 만들어 주신 가족들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 또한 토요일의 소중한 휴식을 뒤로하고 한글학교를위해 함께해 주신 모든 학생, 학부모님 그리고 선생님들께도 깊은 감사의 마음을 전합니다.

레딩한글학교는 여름방학 동안 잠시 쉬어 갑니다. 충전의 시간을 보내고 더욱 성장한 모습으로 9월, 새로운 학년의 힘찬 출발과함께 다시 만나겠습니다.

< Learning through Books, Growing through Presentations >

On 11th July, Reading Korean School held its final lesson of the academic year with a Book Presentation Day, bringing to a close a year of learning and growth. Rather than following the format we have used in previous years, each class prepared its own unique presentation inspired by the books they had read, making the occasion especially meaningful.

Sejong Class, our secondary students, opened the event with an engaging audio-book style performance of <Where Has the Green Sheep Gone?> Adapted from the original story, their lively presentation was enjoyed by everyone, from our youngest Nuri Class pupils to parents and visitors.

Aleum Class, the class with the secondary senior students at Reading Korean School, read <The Hedge Around My Childhood Was a Trifoliate Orange Tree>. Reflecting on the symbolic thorns in the story, the pupils considered the question, "What are my own thorns?" They wrote about their thoughts and shared them with the audience, offering thoughtful and sincere reflections.

After reading <Cloud Bread>, the children in Nuri Class took to the stage with great enthusiasm. Although performing in front of an audience can be daunting for our youngest pupils, they spoke confidently and delighted everyone with their charming presentation, earning warm applause.

Jeongeum Class read <The Happy Prince>, a story familiar to many Korean parents. Their presentation included a hand-made statue and short performances woven throughout the narration, bringing the story vividly to life.

Haneol Class read biographies of Louis Braille, Helen Keller, Park Yeon and Ludwig van Beethoven. Inspired by the lives of these remarkable figures, the pupils shared their reflections in the form of book reviews, expressing what they had learned from each story.

Finally, Hunmin Class presented <The Dream of a Mustard Seed>. Alongside reading the book, the pupils had grown seeds and taken part in a range of related classroom activities. Their presentation demonstrated how reading can be enriched through hands-on learning and experience, providing a fitting conclusion to the event.

This year marked the first class reorganisation in two years, as pupils moved into new year groups. It was particularly rewarding to see how much they had grown over the past year. Through reading, reflecting and expressing their own ideas, each child demonstrated confidence, creativity and thoughtful learning, making the event a memorable one for everyone.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the families who kindly provided personalised ice creams for the children, as well as to those who prepared snack bags and water-balloon bouquets, making the final day of term even more enjoyable. We are also deeply grateful to all our pupils, parents and teachers for giving up their Saturday mornings to be part of Reading Korean School throughout the year.

Reading Korean School will now take a short break over the summer holidays. We wish everyone a restful and enjoyable summer, and we look forward to welcoming you back in September as we begin another exciting school year together.
